The Petition

To Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, John Morton and Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano:

We, the undersigned, write to request that you take immediate action to stop the deportation of Victor Escobar (A# 095-784-824).

Victor came to the United States when he was only 13 years old and has been living in California ever since. Despite having lived in the United States for 11 years and having the support from his community, he finds himself fighting his deportation to Peru, a country he no longer remembers.

Victor, an exemplary student, attended Junior High and High School in his hometown of Redding, California. Victor has always valued his education and, after receiving his diploma, he went onto attending Chico State University in California. He graduated, in 2009, with a degree in Pre-Law with a 3.5 GPA. Victor’s goal was to attend law school after graduation, but was prevented from doing so due to his legal status. Despite the obstacles, Victor is committed to attending law school to contribute to his community.

Victor is an active member of his community. He attends church functions, does community service, and assists the local Western Service Workers Association with members’ legal claims. Victor’s dream is to be a contributor to the future strength of this great nation. If deported, Victor’s dream will not be realized and his family and community will suffer tremendously.

Victor would qualify for the DREAM Act, a narrowly tailored bill that majorities in both the House and Senate voted to support this past December. In a recent announcement published on August 18, 2011, Secretary Napolitano stated the administration is implementing Prosecutorial Discretion in cases involving undocumented youth and families with no criminal record. According to the new guidelines, Victor is not deemed a priority for removal by DHS and merit a favorable exercise of discretion. We ask that you immediately take action to stop Victor’s deportation so he can stay in the United States with his family and community.

Victor exemplifies what it means to be an American and should be allowed to stay in the U.S. to live his American Dream. Victor is a college graduate with hopes of enrolling in law school to help and contribute to his community and country. Please help keep Victor in the country by taking action to stop his deportation.

We, the undersigned, urge you to take immediate action to stop the deportation of Victor Escobar.
