The Petition

To: Deputy Field Office Director of Detention and Removal, David Bradley; Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, Margo Schlanger; DCR Officer, Michael Meade; Miami ICE ERO Office Director, Marc Moore; Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, John Morton; and Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano:

We, the undersigned, write to request that you take immediate action to stop the deportation of Gianfranco Trotta (A# 087-573-033) and Mariana Trotta (A# 087-573-034) from Weston, Florida.

Gianfranco and Mariana were brought to the United States when they were 10 and 6 years old, respectively, from Venezuela. Their family applied for asylum and, after a two year battle in court, their asylum was denied. Gianfranco and Mariana were given until January 31st to leave the United States, a country that has seen them grow into who they are today.

Both Gianfranco and Mariana have been living in the country for over 10 years. Gianfranco graduated from Cypress Bay High School in 2009 and, despite dreams of attending college, he was unable to for financial reasons. He still wishes to enroll at Cuyahoga Community College to continue with his education. Mariana is still attending high school as a junior and hopes to graduate and continue with her studies.

Gianfranco and Mariana are DREAM Act eligible. According to the memo issued by John Morton, Gianfranco and Mariana are not a priority for deportation and should be granted favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion. Furthermore, per President Obama’s statements, Gianfranco and Mariana shouldn’t be in the process of getting deported from the only country they know.

We, the undersigned, urge you to stop the deportation of Gianfranco Trotta and Mariana Trotta.
