Gov. John Kitzhaber, IMMEDIATELY ISSUE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER AND GIVE BACK DRIVER’S LICENSE TO UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS
On November 16th, 2007, former Governor Ted Kulongoski issued an executive order removing driving privileges. This caused an unsafe environment for all drivers in Oregon. Many undocumented residents have been deported or placed into deportation proceedings for nothing more than driving without a valid license.
Governor Kitzhaber can change this by issuing an EXECUTIVE ORDER granting licenses to all Oregonian families.

To Governor John Kitzhaber:
We, the undersigned, ask that Governor John Kitzhaber, a Democrat, immediately issue an executive order granting drivers license privileges to undocumented migrants within the state of Oregon.
On November 16th of 2007, former Governor Ted Kulongoski, also a Democrat, issued a similar executive order removing driving privileges. This policy change has created an unsafe environment for all drivers in the State of Oregon.
Since depriving undocumented residents of a license we have seen many in our community deported or placed into deportation proceedings for nothing more than driving without a valid license. Governor Kulongoski’s decision to remove licenses was short-sighted and is hurting our community and we urge you to do the right thing; sign an executive order to bring licenses to all Oregon families.
Governor Kitzhaber, we know you mean well. Recently your administration attempted to work with the driver license task force to implement a process of law enforcement accepting the Mexican Matricula as a form of identification. We applaud you in your willingness to try new things; however our community cannot wait any longer for a partial solution.
On June 1st Oswaldo Monroy, an undocumented immigrant from Portland, Oregon was arrested for driving without a license. Oswaldo’s arrest triggered an immigration hold and, had the community not organized around his case, Oswaldo could have been deported. Sadly this is the reality for far too many in our community; they are deported because they had no choice but to drive in order to be able to work to provide for their families.
Governor Kitzhaber, if you value undocumented immigrants in your state then you will immediately issue an EXECUTIVE ORDER granting licenses to all Oregonian families.
