To President Barack Obama:
We, the undersigned, write to ask that you, President Obama, take immediate action to halt the deportation of all DREAM-eligible youth.
Last year, we worked on countless cases of undocumented youth facing deportation. Each time, we would expend countless hours on a campaign asking your administration to issue the student deferred action. And every time your Administration would agree that DREAM youth should not be deported from this country. However, it takes great effort to fight each deportation, one at a time, when there are 2.1 million DREAM-eligible youth in the country. This is why it is imperative that your Administration take immediate action to stop the deportation of all DREAM-eligible youth.
Your Administration has stated that immigrant youth are not a priority for deportation, yet each day we hear of a new DREAM-eligible youth who has been detained and is facing deportation. We cannot continue to see our friends be separated from their family and only country they consider their home. We need honesty when approaching our broken immigration system.
As President, it is within your executive power to issue a moratorium on the deportation of DREAM-eligible youth. Your own Administration has issued the same recommendation and now it is in your hands. As undocumented youth who have to go through the fear of being deported every day, we demand nothing less than a stop to all the deportations of DREAM-eligible youth.
In 2010, the DREAM Act received the majority of the vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate and polls show that over 70% of Americans support the legislation. You, as well as members of your Administration, have stated your support for the DREAM Act on several occasions. We now ask that you take the overwhelming support the bill has garnered and translate it into action. We ask that you grant deferred action for all DREAM-eligible youth.
We, the undersigned, ask that you, President Obama, take immediate action to halt the deportation of all DREAM-eligible youth.
