The Petition

To Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, John Morton, and Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano:

We, the undersigned, write to humbly request that you take action to immediately stop the deportation of Julio Enrique Hernandez Moreno (A# 201 217 268).

Julio was born in El Salvador, but he considers New York his home. He was brought to the United States in 2007 after gangs in El Salvador tried to force him to join and later threatened his life. Despite the obstacles and adversity, he is currently a student at Bronx Community College with a passion for radiology. He wants to contribute to the United States, a country he considers his home, but yet is facing imminent deportation to El Salvador. If Julio is deported, he will face gang violence because of his sexual orientation.

Julio was returning to New York, after spending spring break in Chicago, when he was detained by the Border Patrol in a Greyhound bus in Erie Town, PA. Julio spent several days at a jail in Cambria, Pennsylvania and was later transferred to York Detention Center in Pennsylvania. After spending time away from his home, Julio was transferred to New York. He is facing a deportation order that could send him back to a country where his safety and life are in jeopardy.

Julio is a resilient and hard-working student. Despite several obstacles, his desire to continue with his education enabled him to enroll at Bronx Community College where he is pursuing a career in radiology. Julio has aspirations to contribute and serve his community as a radiologist; his dream is to be a role model to younger kids. Julio’s dream is in danger if he is deported back to El Salvador.

Julio exemplifies what it means to be an American, what it means to stand up to adversity with dignity, strength and a passion for serving others. His case illustrates the urgent need to reform our immigration system. Julio should be allowed to live the American Dream and contribute to our country. We ask that you immediately take action to stop Julio’s deportation so he can continue to contribute to his community.

We, the undersigned, urge you to take immediate action to stop the deportation of Julio Enrique Hernandez Moreno.
