Another Low-Priority Deportation: Racially Profiled by Border Patrol

On July 13, Fredy was a passenger in a car when it was pulled over by Border Patrol. Fredy and his friend were asked for their papers and he was arrested when he couldn't provide one. He has been at Broward Transitional Center ever since, away from his 2 U.S. citizen children and wife.

Fredy is a low-priority case and should be released from BTC immediately. It makes no sense for tax-payers to waste thousands of dollars on the detention of a hard-working father and husband.

The Petition

To Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, John Morton; and Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano:

I am writing to call for the immediate release of Fredy Romeo Chun Bravo (A# 205-014-411) from Broward Transitional Center and urge you to take action immediately to stop his deportation so he can be reunited with his two children and wife.

On July 13, Fredy was the passenger in his friend’s car when they were stopped by a Border Patrol agent in Jupiter, Florida. According to the driver, the Border Patrol agent simply looked at them and immediately started following them. The agent asked the driver for his driver’s license and then asked both of them if they had “papers.” This was a clear case of racial profiling as there were no moving violations in the case. Fredy spent four days at Krome Detention Center and, despite being a low-priority case; he was transferred to Broward Transitional Center.

Fredy is originally from Guatemala but has been living in the United States since 2004. Fredy 26 years old and is the father of two U.S. citizen children who are only 5 and 2 years old. Both of his children are suffering emotionally and constantly ask why their dad is not with them. Fredy is also very involved in his church, Asamblea Cristiana, and is loved by his community. If deported, Fredy will be separated from his family, including his two children and his wife who depend on him both financially and emotionally.

According to the memo issued by John Morton, Fredy is a low-priority case and should be granted favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion. Fredy is a great father, husband, and member of his community. It makes no sense for tax-payers to waste thousands of dollars to keep him detained. Fredy needs to be released immediately so he can continue to provide for his two children.

I urge you to release Fredy Romeo Chun Bravo from Broward Transitional Center and stop his deportation.
