I am writing to call for the immediate release of Bernardo Jorge Beade (A# 097 948 493) from Broward Transitional Center in Florida and urge that you take immediate action to stop his deportation.
Bernardo lost everything in December, 2011 – he lost his job, he sold all of his possessions and worked odd jobs to make ends meet, and finally out of desperation and not being able to feed or house himself, he turned himself in to ICE on March 12, 2012. Despite being a low-priority case, he has been detained at Broward Transitional Center ever since.
Bernardo arrived in the United States from Argentina on July 17, 2000. He is known throughout his community as a hard worker with a big heart. For the past 5 years, he has been taking care of a neighbor who suffers from fibromyalgia, including helping with the upkeep and maintenance of her apartment. He also uses his skills to help repair area children’s’ computers for free.
For each day Bernardo is detained tax-payers are spending $166 for his detention. Bernardo has been detained for over 4 months and now tax-payers have spent over $20,000 keeping Bernardo in detention. According to the memo issued by John Morton, Bernardo is a low-priority case and should be granted favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion. Please help keep Bernardo in the country that he considers home for the past 12 years.
