Teodulfo Merino  (A# 076-66-6502) is a father of 2 US citizen children, who has been in the United States for more than 9 years. Teodulfo, who works in San Juan Capistrano, has to pass through the Temecula Check Point early in the morning to avoid repercussions. One morning, a Border Patrol officer followed him on the freeway after the check point and apprehended him.

He has credible fear and there is no reason for him to be held. He is low priority for deportation and should be released so he can fight his case!

The Petition

To President Obama, El Centro Detention Center, and San Diego ICE:

I am writing to call to stop the deportation of Teodulfo Merino (A# 076-66-6502) who is currently being held at El Centro Detention Center in California. He has credible fear and there is no reason to detain him.

Teodulfo first immigrated to the US when he was 23 years old. He originally came to work so he could provide his family in Mexico with a better life. In 1997 he approached by Immigration Officers and by not wanting to get apprehended, signed his voluntary departure. He returned to the US in 2004 when he decided to bring his entire family with him. Soon after in 2008 while looking for work in front of a Home Depot, Teodulfo got approached by ICE officials only to be detained again and be given another voluntary departure.

Teodulfo soon returned due to the necessity of his presence in the United States. He last worked in San Juan Capistrano where he had to wake up early to avoid the checkpoint in Temecula. One morning, a Border Patrol officer began to follow him on the freeway after the checkpoint. Now Immigration says he is set to be deported any moment.

His entire family is in the United States and have all resided in this country for the majority of their life. He has 3 kids who are DACA eligible (a 19 year old who has a learning disability) and 2 US citizen children ages 7 and 2 that depend on him for financially and emotional support. Teodulfo is the main provider for his family of 5 and they urgently need him in order to support his kids and his oldest daughter’s tuition to Cal State San Marcos.

There is no reason why Teodulfo should be deported. He should be allowed to stay here with his family and community.

I urge you immediately stop the deportation of Teodulfo Merino and release him so he can fight his case!
