#BringThemHome: Miguel Cedillo, Father of Two, Victim of Vicious Attacks Wants to Come Home to His Family!

Miguel Angel Cedillo was forced to return to Mexico with his wife and two U.S. citizen children because he was stopped for driving without a license. Despite knowing that life would be harder for his family, his wife and he knew that they could not be separated. It was until his family had been extorted under the threat of one of his family members being kidnapped and “returned in pieces” and having his entire family chased by a knife-wielding assailant that Miguel’s wife and children were forced by necessity to return to the United States without him.

After being brutally attacked and imaging his children growing up without a father, Miguel wants to return home, and his family and community need him!

“I am calling to ask that you allow Miguel Angel Cedillo back into the U.S. He and his family have been threatened by cartels and on two occasions, Miguel has been chased and attacked. Being separated from his two U.S. citizen children and knowing his life has already been threatened  is the reason he wants to come back to his home state of Illinois!"

The Petition

To President Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson:

For people like Miguel Angel Cedillo, who have lived in the U.S. for several years, who have U.S. citizen children, and consider this their home, there is no way to come back. After having lived in the United States for a long period of time, people like Miguel Angel have found that they have become targets of brutal attacks and extortion in their home countries, all because of the fact that they had lived in the U.S. before. Miguel cannot keep living like this and will not put his family in danger by bringing them back to Mexico. After being chased by a knife wielding assailant, having his family extorted by drug cartels twice, and having been brutally attacked, he lives in constant fear and his children have been mentally scarred after living through this trauma.

Miguel Angel came to the United States with every intention to better himself… both to learn English and finish school and to be the model son by supporting his family back in Mexico. He took on two jobs just to ensure that his family was taken care of, and soon thereafter met the love of his life and fathered two beautiful boys. Before both left infancy, however, Miguel was stopped for driving without a license and was told by his lawyer that for this infraction, he would be jailed for six months and then be deported. Because court would take place in 20 days and because he, his wife, and children had never been separated, he and his family sold all of their possessions and moved to Mexico.

In Mexico, apart from jobs being few and far between, Miguel and his family could not readjust to the drastic changes that ensued. But as he and his wife stated in their vows, they would 'stay together in good times and bad.' It wasn’t until the trauma of surviving threats and attacks by extortionists and knife-wielding assailants did their lives go from bad to worse. On two occasions, Miguel and his family were told that if they did not pay local gangs, one of their family members would be kidnapped and mailed back to them in pieces. After this occurrence, Miguel, his wife, and two children were chased by a man with a knife and only survived by a miracle. Both of his children were mentally scarred by living through this trauma and it was only then that his wife and children returned to the United States.

Miguel decided that he could no longer remain in Mexico when he was brutally attacked and had his neck and face severely cut on another occasion. Miguel misses his family and cannot bear to live without them and perishes the thought of his children living without their dad.

We are asking that you allow for Miguel Angel Cedillo to come home to the United States. This person has no other way of coming home. They’ve already tried everything else. We feel that people who have lived in the U.S. for a long time should be allowed to reunite with their families. A lot of these people were forced to leave the U.S. either because they were deported, had family deported, or were fleeing policies like SB1070. If your administration is an advocate for immigrants, then people like Miguel should be allowed to come home.
