The Petition

To President Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson:

On February 5th, 2002 Yordy Feyley Cancino Mendez arrived in California. In Mexico, he along with his mother and sisters were repeatedly abused by his father. His mother decided she had had enough and fled to the United States to provide safety and better educational opportunities for her family. Yordy excelled academically, graduating with a 4.02 g.p.a and salutatorian of his class. He was also the president of the Gay Straight Alliance.

After working so hard in high school and being accepted to his dream university, he was unable to afford the $54,000 a year needed to attend. Feeling highly depressed, he felt like he had no choice but to return to Mexico to continue his studies. Being back in Mexico has been extremely dangerous.

Yordy is gay and has been attacked in Mexico.

He also has been followed from the metro to his house trying to be kidnapped. He fears daily for his life.

For people like Yordy, who have lived in the U.S. for several years, and consider this their home, there is no way for them to come home. After having lived in the U.S. for a long period of time, people like Yordy, have found that they are being targeted in their home countries, all because of the fact that they had lived in the U.S. before and are gay. Yordy can't keep living like this; he has already been attacked and someone has tried to kidnap him.

We are asking that you allow for Yordy to come home to the United States. This person has no other way of coming home, they've already tried everything else. We feel that, people who have lived in the U.S. for a long time, should be allowed to reunite with their families. A lot of these people were forced to leave the U.S., either because they were deported, had family deported, or were fleeing policies like SB1070. If your administration is an advocate to immigrants, then people like Yordy should be allowed to come home.
