The Petition

To President Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson:

Maria Zavala came to the United States from Mexico in 2001 and has four children. She was forced to leave the her home in the U.S. because she needed to be present during a family emergency. When she left to Mexico, she had to leave two of her children.

Maria made the hardest decision of her life when her oldest daughter who lives in Mexico had to have a surgery that was life or death. She had not seen her daughter for 10 years and was terrified that it would be their last time together. She took the risk of leaving her home in the U.S. in order to see her sick daughter. Maria's daughter survived the surgery, and now she is ready to come home to be with her other children. She needs to come back home to provide for her U.S. citizen son the education he needs.

For people like Maria, who have lived in the U.S. for several years, and consider this their home, there is no way for them to come home. After having lived in the U.S. for a long period of time, people like Maria have found that they are being targeted in their home countries, all because of the fact that they had lived in the U.S. before. Maria can't keep living away from her children. She is fighting for the freedom of her children, to live without fear, and to not be limited.

We are asking that you allow for Maria Zavala to come home to the United States. She has no other way of coming home, she has already tried everything else. People who have lived in the U.S. for a long time, should be allowed to reunite with their families. A lot of these people were forced to leave the U.S., either because they were deported, had family deported, or were fleeing policies like SB1070. If your administration is an advocate to immigrants, then people like Maria should be allowed to come home where her family lives.
