Release Raul, longtime community activist, and Rene, father of 5 U.S. citizen children!

On February 17, 2013, Rene Meza was pulled over by Tucson Police, and when he couldn't produce a valid driver's license, Border Patrol Agents were called to detain Rene. Raul Ochoa, a long time resident and immigrant rights activist in Tucson, witnessed the incident and simply tried to stop the separation of yet one more family.    Both Raul and Rene were taken into custody by Border Patrol.

The Petition

To Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, John Morton, and Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano:

I am writing to ask for the immediate release of Raúl Ochoa and Rene Meza Huerta. Both were detained earlier today by Border Patrol in Tucson, Arizona.

Earlier today, February 17, 2013, Rene Meza was pulled over by Tucson Police, and when he couldn't produce a valid driver's license, Border Patrol Agents were called to detain Rene. Raul, a long time resident and immigrant rights activist in Tucson, witnessed the incident and simply tried to stop the separation of yet one more family.

Rene is a father of 5 US Citizen children, all of which witnessed how their dad was being arrested. Raul, is not only a long time activist, but he is also one of the four young people who were part of the first civil disobedience led by undocumented youth on May 17, 2010 inside Senator McCain's office, to ask for the immediate passage of the DREAM Act. Raul was arrested as a result of that action, but was released the next day.

Both Rene and Raul are active members of the community. Rene should be released and allowed to return to his children, who are suffering because they witnessed the arrest of their father earlier today, and because they fear their father could be deported and they will not be able to see him again. Raul should be released immediately, as he was only trying to help a family who should not be separated.

I ask that you immediately release Raúl Ochoa and Rene Meza Huerta. I ask that you allow both of them to return to the community and families that miss them.
